msoffice 2000, Reinstallation missing resource non-specific

Removal from the system was not completely successful. Re Installation halted
due to being unable to find a resource, without being specific about what it
was looking for. I subsequently manually deleted office from the registry
Local_Machine and the program files directory to no avail. I am stuck.

Anyone with the experience?
