multi-user support in Outlook 2003?

Some of Microsoft's marketing material states that
contact sharing is a new feature in Outlook 2003. (See
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/compare.
mspx and scroll down to Exchanging Contact Information.)
However, if you keep digging, it seems as though they did
not actually include this long requested feature. (See
http://www.microsoft.com/office/outlook/contactmanager/pro
dinfo/faq.mspx and click on "Can I use Outlook 2003 with
Business Contact Manager to share my contacts with
colleagues?" Also, if you read through the old chat at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/itcommunity/chats/trans/Office/off0626.asp
you will see that the developers suggested that they may
put some multi-user functionality into Outlook 2003 with
BCM.)

Does anyone know if any kind of multi-user support
(contact sharing/syncing) has been implemented into
Outlook 2003 yet? If not, is it really planning to be
implemented in the near future?

Any word on whether or not they are serious about putting
that feature in as they hinted they might in the
developer chat I mentioned?

I would prefer to upgrade from Outlook 2002 to 2003 if it
will offer this feature. Otherwise, I will either have to
use a 3rd party tool or switch to another contact
manager. Do you know which 3rd party tool is the best?
There are too many out there, and no definitive reviews.

Thanks!

There is none built in to Outlook 2003. Microsoft CRM
(http://www.microsoft.com/BusinessSolutions/Customer% 20Relationship%20Manage
ment/default.mspx) does provide some of these sharing capabilities.

Also, you may find other solutions here:

Personally, I've never used any of them. Someone else in this forum may be
able to contribute a tale from the trenches.

Major feature updates such as this would not be made to a product already
released. Maybe Outlook 12 will have some of this built into the client, but
I know very little of what's coming up with that. The lack of workgroup
sharing has indeed been a heated issue since the buggy, but at least
available Net Folders feature was removed in Outlook 2002.
