Multiple attachments added

When i send an e-mail and add an attachment, Norton scans
5 outgoing e-mails. I sent it to myself, and it brings
in 5 and there are all named 1 of 2 etc, and when the 5th
comes in 2 thru 4 vanish from the in box. I also have
outlook express, and it seems to work fine. This is a
hard one. I have updated norton antivirus and scanned
the computer and nothing. I am stumped

After working on it a little more, they are dat files

that are added, the bigger the attachment the more files
are attached. I was wrong, they dont vanish, they go to
the deleted folder. and leaves the first one in the inbox.
