Multiple copies of messages with IMAP

Hi Group,

I have a strange problem using Entourage 2004 11.2.1 as an IMAP client for
Communigate Pro 5.0.3.

Periodically, arbitrary users will start seeing between 2 and 5 copies of
each new message appear in their Entourage inbox. Logging in to the mailbox
via the server's webmail facility shows just a single copy of each message.

Rebuilding the message list makes the duplicates disappear for messages
already delivered, but subsequent new messages will be duplicated.

The only fix seems to be to create a completely new identity for the user.
This solves the problem for that user for about 2 weeks, and then the issue
will surface again.

Other IMAP clients (we also use Apple Mail and Microsoft Outlook 2003 for
Windows) do not exhibit this behaviour.

Does anyone have any ideas about where I should start looking? Has anyone
seen this behaviour before?

Many thanks,

Dan Hedley

I am experiencing this problem as well. I am receiving multiple copies
of random emails from my IMAP server (mailcan.com). This does not
happen all the time. It has occurred twice in the past week. The only
way to delete the email from Entourage is to rebuild the database.
Does anybody have a solution (other than rebuilding the database)?

When I've had this problem in the past, repairing the message list
(control-click on your IMAP Inbox folder, or Opt-Splat-L) has cleared it up
without having to do a database rebuild.

A rebuild will only delete the message cache for an IMAP account, causing
Entourage to download all the messages again. You can achieve exactly the
same effect by control-clicking (right-clicking) on the server icon and
choosing 'empty cache' from the contextual menu.

Sure, but the issue keeps on recurring. I've improved the situation
somewhat by dramatically increasing the maximum connections on the IMAP
server; it was allowing 100 (for 30 users) but I've now upped it to 300.
The problem does still crop up though, and only happens with Entourage
clients; no other IMAP client is affected.

Is this a known problem with Entourage? Is there a client-side setting I
can tweak?

Greatly appreciate all your input.
