Multiple names in email list

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

When I start to type a name a list of suggested email addresses comes up to select from. I have people who have changed addresses and when I change their contact, I still get their old address in the drop down list. Is there anyway to get rid of that old address-or is it because there are still emails in my in box from the old address?
