my email disappears in my contact list

I can add my email and the second I hit tab or enter it disappears. When I
try to send a message to the contact it brings up his name @ a phone number.

Could you post what you're doing in sufficient detail for someone to
understand? I'm sure it makes sense to you because you know what you're
doing. But we don't. We aren't there watching you.
