My web site has a weird file

One of our web sites began acting weird today. I suspect a virus or hacker.
When we go to our web site, a security warning window comes up and asks "if
I want to save this file? The file name is the same name as the web site but
with no extension. At first I tried to avoid it...then, when the site
wouldn't open, I threw caution to the wind and saved it. I ran virus check
on it. Nothing.

I have searched the remote web site and cannot find a file with the same
name.

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS????....and how do I get rid of it? Nobody will waste
time with this site when you have to download a file.

(also one other thing...maybe related...maybe not...I have several
webs...THIS web (local) has lost it blue dot on the folder. Now it's just a
simple folder)

I've seen this happen with certain types of dynamic web pages, such as PHP
or ASP, when the browser doesn't recognize the extensoin, and the web server
either doesn't know what to do with the file (like running an ASP page on
UNIX instead of windows) or the mime type for the file is getting messed up
in the script itself, in which case the browser doesn't know what to do with
the file so offers a download.

Hope this helps,

If you have installed Windows XP SP2, and you have a link that point to a file and your forgot to
include the file extension in the link, SP2 will popup a security message.

I fixed it but don't know exactly why it works. I noticed before that the
web had an "index.html" page as well as a "index.htm" page. I Copied my
index.htm page as index.html and that solved it. Now the question
is....whats up with that?

And what is the difference between htm and html??

Nothing - other than your host needed a file named .html
