Narration not always working

P

Paul Gregory

We have a set of presentations with narrations. The narrations will work on
some machines but not all. There seems to be no common thread between the
machines but some of them definately have a full install of Office (some XP,
some 2003) with all components selected.

Where do I start troubleshooting to find out wht the narrations won't work?
If they are macro based then the macro settings are the same on machines
that do and don't work.

I am a complete novice to Powerpoint so if this is something obvious then
please accept my apologies.

Thanks

Do all machines have the speaker turned on? Same sound card? Same Volume
Control settings? Check to be sure that Wave/MP3 is not muted.

How did you create and insert the narration? Did you allow the narration to be
embedded, or is it linked?

The machines are all different.

I fear I may have missed something. The narration uses an animated
character. On the machines where the narration doesn't work then the
animated character doesn't appear and no sound is heard. There is no
problem with the sound on any of the machines as all Windows sounds are
audible.

I didn't create the animations they are all in a set of files we
inherited. As the files were distributed to many places I am assuming
they are embedded.

Thanks

Ah, it sounds like you have a presentation that uses MSAgent or VoxProxy.
That's quite a different question then. There are probably files that must be
installed on the machines that are missing. I'm not a user of MSAgent, but your
can find information on it by using google. There are also a couple of MVP's
who are familiar with it, but you'll need to wait for them to visit and see your
post.

I'll have a google around and see what I can find. Thanks for pointing
me in the right direction.
