Need help, please? Sent mail no longer goes to Sent folder

B

Bill Weylock

Please forgive the repost of the issue I posted yesterday. I hoped that
restating it would make the problem a bit more accessible. Also, it¹s not
just a quaint little phenomenon. It¹s really messing with my business to
have all my outbound mail suddenly going to a folder I reserve for mail to
and from close friends.

I have opened every Mail and Outbound rule and see nothing that would
account for this. Obviously I¹m missing something or I have angered the
gods. Is there perhaps a Send folder rule that I may have accidentally
deleted? I thought that was hard wired.

Thanks!

Best,

- Bill

Is this a POP account that should be using the local Sent Items "On My
Computer", or an IMAP or Exchange account where it should be using a Sent
Items or similar folder on the server?

In order for either to work, make sure that in Preferences/Compose, you have
"Save copies of sent messages in the Sent Items folder". You probably do.

The local Sent Items folder will be known to Entourage by its ID, not by its
name. But it is not normally possible to rename it nor to delete it. So if
this concerns a local folder there's probably corruption in your database.
Have you rebuilt it? If not, why not?

Are you sure you're not using my script "Sent News Items to Folder X" from
an Outgoing Rule? Perhaps with inappropriate prefs?

You also didn't say anything about checking your Mailing List Manager rules.
MLM handles both incoming and outgoing messages. You might have mistakenly
set up an MLM for all messages?

If it's an IMAP account, open Tools/Accounts/that account/Advanced. That's
where you have "Store sent messages in this IMAP folder" checked. Is it
pointing to the wrong folder? That sounds most likely of all possibilities.

I am so damn stupid!

I just looked at the outgoing filters again. In two of them I had the
criterion in the title of the rule but not as a criterion. So it told
Entourage to place outbound mail in the Friends folder ³If any criteria are
met² period.

I¹m glad I fixed it, but it¹s embarrassing to have been so insistent. Can¹t
think why I didn¹t see that yesterday. I think I was looking only for the
actions.

Thanks, Paul, and sorry for putting you through this. I really do try to be
more careful than this before posting. All I can think is that I was
over-tired yesterday. Or, as I say, just plain dumb.

Best,

- Bill
