need help seriously

I'm on a Mac powerbook g4, running entourage 2004. When I restarted my
computer a little while ago, and clicked on my Entourage icon to go to
my mail, it prompted me as a new user to choose identity; when I chose
my identity, it was completely empty, no emails, no address book
contacts, no junk mail, no projects, NOTHING!

I found the database in the documents folder, but when I try to import
into Entourage to get all my stuff back it is greyed out and I cannot
access anything.

I really need some help here and wonder if anyone else could help me.
If I do recover everything, I am seriously considering bailing out of
Entourage as it is so scary; second time I have had near miss with all
my data, in fact lost 1.5 months worth of data in October...any
suggestions about more stable email programs for me?

Thanks for any help, I am not used to MS at all and just don't
understand a thing..

Kind regards to all, Kit

Try choosing "Switch Identity" from the Entourage menu. See if your old
identity is there.

If your Microsoft User Data folder is moved from your Documents folder,
Entourage will create a new blank Identity. Either you moved your Identity
folder or the entire Microsoft User Data folder or it was "lost" by the
system.
I found the database in the documents folder, but when I try to import
into Entourage to get all my stuff back it is greyed out and I cannot

Did you find your original database? You can't import from the same version
of Entourage to a new Identity.

Fix if you have more than one Microsoft User Data Folder or more than one
"Main Identity".

Move the entire identity folder you want to use to the Office Identities
folder that Entourage is recognizing. Your identity is named "Main" by
default. Be sure to rename one so you do not overwrite. Your identity folder
can contain more than one identity.

Switch Identities to view your old mail. If you have not used the new
identity, delete it. If you have used it and want to combine the new mail
with your original database, drag each folder to the desktop from one
identity. This creates an MBOX file. Switch identities. Drag the MBOX files
into the folder window of Entourage.

You can delete the old identity folder after you are satisfied with the
transfer.

Thank you, I was able to find my correct Identity by following these
instructions plus instructions you gave someone else about creating a
new identity and using sherlock to find out where Entourage was looking
for the identities...I then found out I had two identities with the
same name...so I chose the latest and largest one, put it in the right
place in Documents, rebooted and voila, everything was there just like
always...whew! Thanks again for the help...Kit
