hi, i just got a G4 and installed office 2004. i used it for a couple
of weeks, then i was adding some language tools from the cd, but i
guess overwrote all the office or something happened that since that
moment, i start getting the message "this identity cannot be open with
this version of entourage" when i try to open this application and
this other message "An unexpected error has occurred when trying to
load the the microsoft framework library" when opening any of the
other apps(word, excel..) what can I do? i've tried to reinstall all
the office package again, but doesn't work... looking for help i read
that deleting some .plist(apple.microsoft.entourage.plist, and others
like this) archives would help, but it hadn't.

Can anybody help me? thank you so much

"This Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of Entourage"
This message usually means, for example, that Entourage is at 11.0, but the
saved database was saved in Entourage 11.2. Since there was a database
format change in there, Ent 11.0 cannot open a database saved in Ent 11.2.

"An unexpected error has occurred when trying to load the the Microsoft
framework library":

Option 1) If you receive a framework error, re-apply recent updates. A
framework error normally means one or more components of Office have not
been updated correctly and are now out of synch with other bits.

Option 2) The "Framework error" is basically a (generic) message indicating
the application can't connect to the Database or to the expected information
inside the Database. The reasons may differ and so may the methods to solve
it.

Some users have resorted to deleting the MUD folder, but before you do that
try some other methods (repairing permissions, rebuilding the Database,...)
before you take a drastic action like deleting the MUD folder.

Now that you understand your errors, I'm going to suggest you run "Remove
Office" located in the User/Applications/MS Office 2004/Additional Tools
folder. Then re-install & update Office. [IMPORTANT]

Download the 11.3.3 installer. It is a combo updater. Then run the 11.3.4
updater. Not all Office applications are updated each time. See this
explanation:

More on using "Remove Office":
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/index.html#remove_office>

Another update that I want you to use is the Apple Combo Updater. Even
though you have recently updated, the combo updater can fix files that have
become corrupted. This can't hurt and it could give you a better install of
your OS.

After all of this restart and run Repair Permissions.

Using Repair Permissions after installing MS Office or any application that
uses an installer is often advised. To use Repair Permissions:
1. Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.
2. Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions
3. Click on the icon for your boot volume.
4. Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD. Updates contain a newer versions of the application's
permissions.

Let me know if you continue to have problems.
