As a former OE user, I was in the habit of compacting my database
periodically as it became bloated. Do I need to do this with Entourage?
If so, how do I do it?

The easy way to do it is to hold down the option key when launching
entourage - keep holding the key down until you see the rebuild screen.
Do you need to do it? Not really, unless you have just deleted a whole bunch
of 'stuff' and want to recover the space. Entourage will fill the 'holes'
left in the database after stuff has been deleted with newly created or
arriving stuff. Unless you are in the habit of leaving things alone then
doing a mass delete of 2gb of data, then the database tends to increase to
it's optimum size where new stuff arriving just about balances the rate of
stuff being deleted.
