Need to parse a text string field and create new records

I have a field that is a text string delineated by semi-colons. I need to
parse a text string and create new records with each individual peice of
text and info from the original record.

ex.
Start with:
Orig. Record: Field 1 - New York
Field 2 - 2002
Field 3 - Smith; Johnson; Wesson

Need to end up with
Rec. 1: Field 1 - New York
Field 2 - 2002
Field 3 - Smith
Rec. 2: Field 1 - New York
Field 2 - 2002
Field 3 - Johnson
Rec. 3: Field 1 - New York
Field 2 - 2002
Field 3 - Wesson

Any suggestions.
