Network 2003 rollout using BITS?

K

Ken Piper

Hi all, I posted this in the GP/AD newsgroups, but no answer (apologies for
the
repost):

Hi all, I have a network install of Office 2k3 ready to rollout, and I have
a test 'Publish' GPO to roll it out, but I dont' want to swamp my network
with people installing office.

Is there any way to set this up in an SUS-BITS type fashion, so that the
clients will use BITS to download the installer/transform files and then run
them locally?

(SUS - Software Update Services, and BITS being Background Intelligent
Transfer Service, for which I don't see a newsgroup...)

Thanks!

Hi Ken,

MS Office doesn't use the MS Software Update Services (SUS). It has its own update empire :) You'll find more information on
deploying and updating Office 2003 in the Office Resource Kit, http://microsoft.com/office/ork/2003 which is also the home for the
'administrative' (full package) updates for Office.
