New categories don't appear in main window

I'm running Entourage 10.1.4 under OS 10.3.1, and I find that when I create
a new category, it does not show up the address or task windows until I quit
the program and relaunch it. (It does show up immediately in the calendar
and notes windows). The same holds true when I try to delete a category. It
lingers on in the address and task windows until I quit and relaunch. (But
is immediately deleted from the calendar and notes windows).

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance, --Brian Abbott

Rebuild your database. Option key down at launch. Try Typical first, but you
may need to redo as Advanced.

Tried this tonight, --first the Typical rebuild, and then the Advanced.
Neither seemed to effect any change. Any further ideas???

Thanks again, --Brian Abbott

How about if you just switch into a different area (mail, calendar) and then
back again?

To verify where the problem is located....

First, create a new identity to eliminate corruption in current identity. I
know you did the rebuild, but this will verify if the problem was fixed.

Entourage X: Entourage menu>Switch Identity>Select New

If the problems go away, then your old identity is corrupt. You can try a
rebuild on your old identity AGAIN.

If the problem existed in a new identity then create a new User. This will
eliminate corruption or conflicts in your User Folder:

In System Preferences: Users: Create a new user. Log Out/In to new user.
Open Entourage and see if the problems go away. (You might need to recreate
your account info.) If problems disappear then you know it's a conflict or
corruption in your user folder.

How about if you just switch into a different area (mail, calendar) and then
back again?

Paul: It makes no difference switching back and forth between areas, --even
several times.

Diane: I gave it a try, creating first a new identity in Entourage, and
then a new user on my Mac. However, the problem remains unchanged.

I've spent a little time to try to more precisely nail down the problem, in
case this would provide additional helpful information. What I find is
this: The tasks function never responds to additions or deletions of a
category until quitting and relaunching. The mail function always responds
immediately to such additions and deletions. Address book, calendar, and
notes generally don't respond, but on infrequent (and inexplicable)
occasions they do.

Thank you both, --I'm much appreciative of your continued thought on this,
