New document always opens in Header

I am using MS Office 2003 with Windows XP. At some point Word began to open
ALL new (blank) documents with the cursor in the header. To get out of it, I
must go to View Header and then immediately close the Header.

I tried trashing the Normal template (to get it to generate a new one), and
have searched and can find nothing that addresses this in Help or elsewhere.

This is making me crazy!
Help?
Thanks!

Thank you for the input, but the "Hide the White Space" option is NOT checked
(never has been)- I see the white space/headers etc. I was initially
hopeful this was it, since I *am* using the Print Layout View. Rats!

The cursor actually IS in the header instead of the body, although just
opening and closing the header pops it into the body.

We had another user who reported this same problem, and I don't recall
whether it was resolved, but the consensus seemed to be that there must be
an AutoNew macro doing this (possibly the effect of a poorly written
add-in).
