New Email Notification

when using entourage, whether composing a new email, or viewing an existing email in a separate window, the new email notification does not display. is this the way it is designed? or is this an oversight?

That's by design; when you're in Entourage, you can immediately see your new
messages, which is why the notification only shows up when Entourage is not
active.

am using google imap account. why don't i get a new email notification although entourage is not active? it seems that i only get new email notification if the mail account is POP and not IMAP.
Any ideas?

It could be because Google¹s IMAP implementation kind of sucks, from an IMAP
server POV.
