New hard drive

Gonzo White

I purchased a new hard drive. Installed XP and Office XP.
All of my outlook files on now on a backup hard drive.
How can I move all the files to the new hard drive so that the new Outlook
has all my old files.

I can't find any of the data files for outlook.

If you intend to keep the old hard drive for storage, just point Outlook to
the old .pst file on the old hard drive.

Close Outlook. Rename the new .pst file. Open Outlook and when it
complains, point it to the location of your old .pst file. It will use this
one for new mails and all storage of your Outlook data.

Enable searching hidden/system files.

Did that,, still couldn't find anything.

The default location for PSTs is C:\Documents and Settings\Local
Settngs\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. I take it, though, that you've
replaced the HD. and it's now a D or E drive letter. Look in ththe above
folder, but on the appropriate drive. Check again to make sure you've
enabled showing hidden files and folders (Control Panel>Appearance and
Themes>Folder Options>View>Show hidden files and folders).

Well that helped a lot. I found the files on drive C.
But on my old hard drive in the same spot there is only a
nk2 (office data) file.
I tried to get office to inport the files but it will not even look at that
drive

Can I just change the name? and if so how do I change the nk2 to a .pst?

M

You can't - the n2k file is your resolved email addresses used for
autocomplete. The .pst file is all of your data (contacts, calendar, tasks,
etc.) they are not interchangeable.

Did you search your entire old drive? If not, do so, looking for *.pst. If
you don't find a file with that file type, you are Plain Out Of Luck (tm).
