New Mail icon on Windows xp taskbar

Ive got xp and when i get a new mail a letter icon used
to appear in the bottom right of my screen on the toolbar,

It seems to have stopped doing this? Any ideas how i get
it back?

To get the envelope icon back:

right click on the gray bar that has subject, date Ect..
select field chooser
then select icon
hold down your left mouse button and drag it into
postition on the bar
