New Mail Notification doesn't work

Hi,

I would like to be alerted when new mail is sent to me. But it doesn't
work for some reason.

In General Preferences>Notifications I've enabled (checked) "Animate
icon" and "Bring application to front". It's been set up this way for
several months but has never worked. When new mail arrives, I never
know it and I have to retrieve it to find out that it's there.

I'm assuming that I'm not overlooking anything and that it should be
working, right?

Is there a way to troubleshoot what the problem is as to why I get no
New Mail notification? (I installed Microsoft Office X and then
downloaded the latest updates from Mactopia when I first got the
software).

I would appreciate any assistance. Any ideas what to do next?

Thanks for the help.

Have you enabled automatic operation of send/receive all? Check
Tools->Schedules and look at the send and receive all schedule.

Thanks Allen for pointing me in the right direction,

I had enabled Send And Receive All but didn't realize that I could
configure it further. It turns out that the schedule was set to
Manual... I set it to Repeating Every 10 Minutes. Now it works!

Thanks again.
