New pop account with folders

P

Preston Edwards

Is there a way to see my folders(inbox, sent, delete) on my pop email
account in entourage. Currently email sent to my pop account is being sent
to the inbox under "folders on my computer".

Folders on the server usually can't be seen with POP. POP is not an
"online" type of account. To do that, I suspect you need IMAP. With POP,
everything is downloaded "on your computer". I don't see how you could
really synchronize with these folders.

Normally, Corentin would be absolutely correct. However, Entourage does
permit on-line access to POP account, although it is not 100% reliable (POP
was never designed for this):

In the 'accounts' window, double-click the POP account to access the
settings window. Switch to the 'options' pane, and the last item should be
'allow online access' - check that checkbox, and the account will appear in
the folder list, just like an IMAP account.

I'm not sure that's what Preston is actually after. W hat you get that way
is the server's mailbox, effectively the Inbox. What Preston asked for was
"a way to see my folders (inbox, sent, delete) ". I think he just wants to
see all the folders organized under one "This POP Account" hierarchy, like
Apple Mail does it, and like IMAP accounts are organized.

It's perfectly possible to organize your "account folders" that way:

1) Go to File/New/Folder. Make a (top-level local "On My Computer") folder
and name it after your POP account.

2) Select that new "Account Name" folder, and go to File/New/Subfolder to
make a new subfolder, and call it "Inbox".

3) Select that same "Account Name" folder, and go to File/New/Subfolder to
make a new subfolder, and call it "Sent Items".

4) Go to Tools/Rules/Mail (POP), and make a New rule to Move <all messages>
whose <Account> is <"Account Name"> to the "Inbox" subfolder of "Account
Name" folder (On My Computer).

5) Go to Tools/Rules/Outgoing, and make a New rule to Move <all messages>
whose <Account> is <"Account Name"> to the "Sent Items" subfolder of
"Account Name" folder (On My Computer).

You shouldn't attempt to do anything similar for Deleted Items, because it
won't work with the Delete key or button.

Right, but rules will only do that for the in and outboxes. No other
folder you might have on webmail can really be dealt with the same way.
