New Strange Behavior in Entourage

R

Renda, Michael

I'm seeing some new behavior in Entourage for the last couple of weeks that
I didn't have before. I can't tie it to any changes I've made to my system
- OSX 10.4.3 on a Mini.

Here's what's happening: When I open up a message, sometimes several of the
buttons on the bar are not enabled when normally they would be. At other
times, the buttons are enabled but if I click on one of them (for instance,
clicking on the delete function), they become disabled and the action I
clicked on is not performed. When that happens, the only thing I can do is
go back to the list messages view and perform the function from there.

At other times, I can open a message and the buttons are enabled and I can
perform all of the expected functions from the message view. And I can't
really predict when the functions might or might not work. The one thing I
have noticed is that all of the functions seem to work when I've first
started up Entourage and that it deteriorates during the day. If I quit
Entourage and re-start it, all the functions work again (for a while).

I can't really tell if this is a system issue or an application issue. The
only application I see it in is Entourage. On the other hand, Entourage is
the second most heavily used application (after Firefox).

Is anyone else seeing anything like this?

Yes, I'm seeing exactly the same thing (mentioned in a couple of other
threads over the past few days). What I've found is that once Entourage
gets in that state then quitting and restarting always solves the
problem, but I don't recall seeing it solve itself. I can't pin it to
any changes other than that I upgraded StickyBrain to version 4.0 and
that I had an odd Spotlight problem for a day or so (clicking on the
icon did nothing, not sure how it got fixed). I'm not seeing strange
behavior anywhere else. This started for me about a week ago, possibly
just the new year. Is it possible you only started seeing it since we
got to 2006?

Anyone else? A solution would be *much* appreciated, it's annoying to
need to close Entourage every hour or so.

Same here.
Sometimes, when I switch Identities, it won't let me enter my password
either.
Annoying, but 100% of the time, quitting Entourage works.

Have you fully updated entourage? Use the 'Check for Updates' command under
the Help menu.

I used to see behaviour like this some time ago, but not now.

Yes. I think that's the case. I upgraded to 4.0.3 of Sticky Brain and, so
far, haven't experienced the Entourage problems I had been having. But, I'm
still testing so can't say for sure.
