New Task Shortcut

Can anyone tell me how do I make a keyboard shortcut for a new task
systemwide- I used to have it on windows but don't know what to do with my
new mac!

Idea is to quickly create tasks instead of notes as notes do not sync with
pocketpc-

Thanks,
Ajay

This is not available directly within Entourage. However, you can assign a
keyboard shortcut for it within the Keyboard & Mouse system preference pane.
Do the following:

1. Open System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse
2. Click on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab
3. Scroll down to the section entitled "Application Keyboard Shortcuts."
4. Click the "+" icon at the lower left of the box.
5. In the dialog box that follows, locate "Microsoft Entourage" in the
"Application" section. You may have to scroll down to "Other..." and locate
Entourage in your Applications > Microsoft Office 2004 folder in the
Applications folder.
6. In the "Menu Title" field, enter "Task" (without quotes).
7. In the Keyboard Shortcut, enter something that is not in use by another
Entourage function. I chose Shift-Command-T.
8. Click Add.
9. Quit Entourage.
10. Re-launch Entourage.
11. Test your new shortcut. It should work.

Hope this works for you.

P.S. to my last message: Bear in mind that the shortcut will only work when
Entourage is the currently-selected application. I don't know how to assign
this systemwide without using an external application like QuicKeys
(http://www.quickeys.com) or one of the products from You software
(http://yousoftware.com).

Thanks for your help. Actually once Entourage is open and selected, it is
easy to create a new task. What I would like to have is the systemwide
option which opens a new task from anywhere, anytime. Incidentally I am also
looking for something like this for New Sticky!

All this was very easy in Windows- must be a way to do it on Mac-?

Ajay:

There's a pretty easy way to do this if you have Quicksilver installed. If
you don't yet have Quicksilver, I recommend it. I've used it for quite a
while and I'm not in any way affiliated with the company. Just a happy user.

Here's a link: http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/

Once you have Quicksilver installed, you can create a new task in
Entourage no matter which application is currently active by doing the
following:

Invoke Quicksilver ( to avoid conflict withy Spotlight, I modified
default keyboard shortcut from ctrl spacebar to ctrl up arrow).

Type "." (period) to get the variable input field.

Type "Test task" (or your task) into input field.

TAB to second pane.

Type first few letters of Entourage until "Entourage - Fast Task"
appears

Hit Return

Your task will be entered into Entourage.

Once you've done this a few times, it's very fast.

Hope this helps.
