New type of Database Problem

Hi there, I have a new type of Entourage 2008 database problem that I can't seem to resolve.

I work in an organization where we have 40+ copies of Entourage tied into Exchange and I'm no stranger to Entourage's database corruption methods and rebuild procedures. However, this is a new one and I'm kind of stumped:

When I open Entourage, it tells me that my database is damaged. However, it still opens Entourage in the background, and even gives me the option to "Cancel". If I ignore the dialogue box, I can just continue to use Entourage, all day if I want. It will yell at me again if I quit and restart Entourage.

A few months ago, on the same user's computer, I've seen this ONCE before and it was eventually solved by some sort of bad email or something similar.. but for the life of me I can't remember how to fix it this time.

No, rebuilding the database doesn't work. The last time it happened, I spent hours and hours trying several times to rebuild the database and in any other way repair it, and none of it worked. The same error occurred after every rebuild. Once I did "that something I can't remember", the error box went away and the system was fine, without an actual database rebuild.

So in conclusion, this error is definitely something "else", especially because Entourage is not throwing up the end-of-the-world you have to rebuild to continue kind of error. It's almost like a casual error about your database is damaged and it's not even critical (you can even hit Cancel on the box that pops up), because if you ignore the error you can continue to work as usual and it won't bother you again until you reopen Entourage. I just can't remember what I did to resolve it last time.

Any help?

Thanks for the quick reply, but I have already been to that page and have already taken all of those steps into consideration. That page also does not make any reference to my specific problem.

Either way, removing the plist file made no difference, there is known good RAM in that system and 70+GB worth of free hard drive space.

When I open Entourage, it tells me that my database is damaged.
However, it still opens Entourage in the background, and even gives
me the option to "Cancel". If I ignore the dialogue box, I can just
continue to use Entourage, all day if I want. It will yell at me
again if I quit and restart Entourage.

I wouldn't ignore Database warnings. If repairing doesn't work then I
suggest that you use Entourage menu --> Switch Identity... to create a
new identity (new Database), set up your Exchange account again and then
allow it to sync with the Exchange account again.

You'll need to re-create rules, signatures, categories, etc., but you
can migrate any saved data from the old identity to the new one if this
resolves the problem.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try creating a new identity as well as full re-synch. Just frustrating because I can't remember what the "trick" was to fixing it the last time!
