New WinXP, old Office 2000 fails to find...

T

Tx2

I have a new PC with Windows XP Home edition, and am trying to install a
genuine Office 2000 Standard installation onto it, but get the message

"setup failed to locate a valid qualifying product for your machine.."

This is not an upgrade version, nor do i have CD2 of the suite, as per
some of he KB articles, it is a standalone CD.

The only other thing i have (had) installed is Word 2002 which came
included with my Worksuite 2000 DVD. I uninstalled this as i feel there
may a conflict, but it is still doing it.

Why is this occurring, but more importantly, how can i fix it?

Office will only throw that error if your version is an upgrade version and
cannot find a previous qualifying product.

Although I haven't seen the disk in person, i am assured it is not an
upgrade version. I was quite specific in making this point with the
person trying to install it.

The disk, AFAIAA, will have "UPGRADE" quite clearly printed on it, which
in this case, i have been told it has not.
