Newbie to newsgroups question

I am using entourage to read newsgroup messages. My list is over 1000
messages long. How do I get rid of "delete?" Messages I no longer wish to
see. For example, I only wish to view messages that are new since the last
time I updated??

You can remove them from view by going to View menu and selecting "Unread
Only". You can't delete them individually as you can with mail messages. You
can only delete the entire download cache for the whole news server with all
its newsgroups. (You can always re-download messages from the server if you
need to.) You do that by control-clicking on the news server (Microsoft News
Server usually) in the Folder List and selecting Empty Cache. But you really
only need do that once in a very long while. Normally, just view Unread
Only.

Please "Reply To Newsgroup" to reply to this message. Emails will be
ignored.

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - 2001 or X.
It's often impossible to answer your questions otherwise.

You'll have to create a "Rule" (from the "Tools" menu): from the "News" pane
in it, click on the "+New" button on the upper left. Set it in order to have
something like :

IF "Sending date" "is superior to" "x days"
THEN "Do not display item"
Check the "Activate" box and then click the OK button.

The problem with this Rule is that ia apparently can't be set in order to
run automatically (well, I didn't find out how). So you'll have to select
all the messages in a group, and then control click on one of them. So you
can apply the Rule to the selection.

I know this is fudging the issue, but there are better newsreaders out there.
It really depends on what you are doing of course, but I have always found
Ent, OE, Netscape and the like lacking in ability.

I use Hogwasher, but I have heard good things about Thoth, MT-Newswatcher,
and MacSoup (I used this in the old days of OS9!)

It may help, it may not ...
