I have repeatedly attempted to insall the newest office 2008 update and the error message is that the application is not installed on my system.

The application is located on my Mac hard drive, but the update does not see it.

Does anyone know what would cause this problem?

Thanks

I have repeatedly attempted to insall the newest office 2008 update and
the error message is that the application is not installed on my system.

Try repairing permissions (with DIck Utility), then reboot. Don't launch
any of the Office applications and run the installer again.

If this doesn't work, you might have to uninstall and reinstall Office
:-( (using the uninstaller)

I have had Office 2008 on my Macbook Pro, and it worked just great. Then 2 days ago, I updated it with the 2 latest updates, and now I have the "loop" problem too. I have done ALL of the following, without ANY success:

1) Installed the updates, and restart after each update
2) Deleted the 2 files as per the blogs
3) Removed and re-installed, using "shift" when logging out/in, again deleting the 2 files...
4) Tried the whole process around 6 times, following the instructions on the Entourage MVPs instructions...

What happens now, is after deleting Office 2008, re-install from original CD, restart, update, restart, update, restart, repair permissions...i then get to the "assistant" where I enter my name and the 25 code product key, and hit "enter" and NOTHING HAPPENS.

As stated, I have followed the instructions 100%, and have tried the whole process 6 times, and still nothing happens after inserting the product key, and hitting "enter"...

Please help. I have spent 2 full days trying to get it to work again. Before the updates, all was working 100%.

Thanks

Robbie

1) Is there a Microsoft User Data folder in your Documents folder?

2) If not, create one.

3) If yes, move the Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop then see if
the installer completes. BTW, is this an ADMIN account?

I've been troubleshooting with a user and his Microsoft User Data folder was
missing. He also had trouble creating a new one because of permissions
issues. After creating a new empty Microsoft User Data folder, the install
completed. (he was stuck at the same place as you)

I did the re-install....moved office folder to trash....logged back in with safe mode (hold shift key when you log in)...reinstalled office, then it found all the updates, including the latest, which previously would not install....
