LOL

You had to say that didn't you.

I was going to stop using OLE but as you say it is a good news reader so why
mess about.

I have looked. I've tried other clients. Time and time again I have reverted
to OE. I've given up searching. Years ago, I have no idea if it exists
anywhere these days, there was an application called XNews that fit on a
floppy and could be run without even installing it. It even had a decent
feature-base. It's been some number of years since but the application is
probably still available but even then it is nothing compared to OE which is
easy, effective, and simple. Other than it's needing to be compressed and
cleaned once in a while it's a decent application and the price is right. ;)
So, if you want to try others (I've heard a few recommended) then something
here might tickle your fancy:

Newsreaders/Usenet:

Hah, still says Xnews (I could have sworn the N was capitalized before but
this was years ago) is available. That and 40tude appear to be the only true
clients listed there.

There's a newsreader built into Mozilla (not FF).
Works well, OE is more convienient though.

One thing I like about Xnews is its integrated handling of yEnc. However,
there are yEnc proxies that can be used with Outlook Express (yProxy Pro at
http://www.brawnylads.com/yproxypro/ , yDecode at http://www.ydecode.com/).
One thing I don't like is that I don't find its UI very intuitive.

Forte Agent also has a free version.

Ah, that was the other one I'd heard rants about. If you recommend it I'll
happily download it so, seeing as you posted a URL for it, I'll give it a
whack. If it's any good I'll even buy it. (I buy lots of applications - even
some I really don't *NEED* but think other people will enjoy. It's my way of
contributing to the future of those applications and to hoping that they'll
still develop them.) I'll download it tonight when the PC is no longer busy.
