Newsgroup SPAM/Virus control

After posting my first Newsgroup post, I have since been
bombarded by SPAM like e-mails that contain viruses. The e-
mails proclaim to be Microsoft Patches and are send from
the Technical Services Bulletin.

What a way to sour a persons experiance and opportunity to
share information.

It's best when you post on newsgroups that you disguise or even fake
your email to avoid just this. Real emails can be easily "harvested"
from newsgroups, web sites, and from email distribution lists on
people's "infected" machines. The "bad guys" have been up to this for a
long time, and it's been especially bad in the last couple of months.
They are not picking in you.

General rules of save computing

1. Use a firewall (hardware or software)
2. keep your Windows updated and patched (with real ones you get from
Microsoft using the Update program they provide).
3. Use and keep your anti-virus software up to date.
