newsreader disappears from Go menu

I have go/news on the oulook menu and outlook express NR lauches fine. I
close news and go no longer has news on the menu. I can add custom buttons
because go does not have news there at this time, either. If I go into
Outlook express, tell it it is the default NR, launch it, close it, then
launch outlook, Go/News is back. I can lauch it and then back to square one.
I have searched KB to no avail and help tells me nothing new.

Does anyone know the problem and a fix?

Well, I found a fix. Through trial and error. First, I opened Outlook
Express and told it that it was the default mail reader. Then closed it and
went to Outlook Go/News . It asked if I wanted it to be the default reader
and I said NO and don't aske me again. Now the newsreader is working fine. I
had this on 3 computers and all 3 work fine now.

Yup...it's a known issue, and you figured out the only workaround we know of
:)

I did this or maybe I did something wrong, but when I click the news button
it opens Outlook Express with the inbox and the news groups, is this
correct??

TIA,

Scott

No, the Inbox and all mail functions in OE should be disabled if you open it
with the News command in Outlook. I've seen at least one other post from
someone who reported the same problem you are having, and I don't know why
it might be happening. You may find it easier to simply create a Windows
shortcut that opens Outlook Express in the newsreader mode. Just create a
shortcut to the Outlook Express executable file and put the /newsonly switch
on the end of the target file path. For example, your shortcut's target
path might look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /newsonly
