No confirmation dialog before deleting messages

I have searched the archives and this issue first came up in March
2003 (from Ludvig). I don't know if anything has changed but this
definitely seems to be either a bug in Entourage X or bad design.

When you delete a message, either by clicking on the trash can icon or
by any other method, you are not warned that you are deleting a
message, *even if* you have this option checked up in General
Preferences/Notifications. Resetting Notifications does not address
the issue.

In regular usage (i.e. selecting a message and clicking on the trash
can icon), this might not seem to be much of an issue--you probably
know what you are doing and if you make a mistake you can go to the
deleted items folder and retrieve the message.

HOWEVER, there are situations where you *might not even know* you are
deleting a message. For example, if you are in a message window and
you are using the keyboard shortcuts to move to the "next" (COMMAND-])
or "previous" (COMMAND-[) messages, you can delete messages without
even being aware. When you reach the top of a folder and *continue*
pressing the "previous" keyboard shortcut, you delete the topmost
message. Each subsequent keystroke deletes another message, all the
time with no notifications. BTW, if you use the View menu to navigate,
you cannot delete the messages because the "previous" menu choice is
dimmed when you reach the top of the list.

There does not seem to be any way I can think to get Entourage to
notify you.

I have worked around this last situation (e.g. navigation through
messages) by using Quickeys (I expect others could write an Apple
script). I have programmed Quickeys to select the "next" and
"previous" menu choices (*not* the keyboard shortcuts, but the actual
menu selections). When you get to the top of the folder, you can't go
any further (and can't delete any messages) because the menu choice is
dimmed.

As for deleting messages in a regular folder, if you use
COMMAND-BACKSPACE to delete messages, you can also program a two-step
Quickey that first provides a confirmation dialog box and then deletes
the message only if you select "OK".

If anyone has any other better solutions, I'd be interested.
