no Entourage group calendar? & couple of other questions (Please help)

S

Saluki

I want my secretary to be able to maintain a single calendar for
several people, all of whom could access it and make changes to it
with Entourage X and Exchange Server. (Before we switched to Macs, we
did this with Time and Chaos or Agendus for Windows.)

But in reading some threads, it looks like this is NOT possible.
Please confirm. (And thanks Doug, if you see this, for the email; I'm
still contemplating it!)

Entourage would be great for us if there could be a "Capps Law Firm"
calendar with EVERYTHING on it, with different people's events in
different colors (by category) -- which is, of course, possible on a
singe Entourage calendar. But what I need is for everyone to be able
to see that single calendar, then, when the secretary is out and an
associate picks up the phone, he can create a new event from his
computer to that single calendar. (Sorry if I'm being redundant, but
this is the deciding factor and I want to know for sure. A phone call
to Microsoft to ask this same question was eventually answered with "I
dunno, I'll send you an email if I find out.")

The reason I am looking at Entourage instead of Now Up To Date is
because the Entourage integration with Office would allow us to use
merge docs with our contacts, plus I have tried Group Organizer
(granted, a different product) and found it quirky with poor Palm
support and am just leery of "groupware" without a server, although I
am more the willing to be educated!

We all love Macs. But the problem with calendars has been a huge
downside for us.

It looks like Entourage 2004 will let you do this:
http://www.macnn.com/news/22915

"Entourage [2004] offers several different views for organizing and tracking
information and allows information to be shared with other users. With a few
clicks, users can specify which data (e.g., emails, files, and/or contacts)
within the project can be shared. The easy-to-use service will utilize a
central server such as AppleShare file server, HTTP DAV file server, or an
iDisk to house a centrally located Entourage Database with the project's
associated files; it will automatically sync changes to tasks, notes, and
the calendar with all shared users and will allow users to "check in and
out" documents, providing a warning if modified files would overwrite more
recent versions on the server. "
