No IMAP or POP access

I am wanting to connect entourage to our corp exchange server but a
microsoft consultant told our admin that opening imap and/or pop would
be a security risk. Has anyone heard of anyh kind of native support
or when it would be available?

Entourage 2004 use Dav access in the same way that Outlook Web Access works.
POP/IMAP access is no longer necessary (not that its a security risk
anyhow!)
