No messages in Inbox

I am getting totally frustrated by Entourage 2008! I have managed to
configure it to access my company Exchange server and my calendar
syncs just fine down to my Mac, but nothing comes from my contacts
(not too worried about that) but nothing shows up in my inbox at all.
I can create a message in Entourage and send it with no problems, but
none of the 800+ messages in my inbox on the server make it down. It
takes forever to sync - sends 50+megabytes down the wire, then says
there are no messages!

I have reset the cache since that has been mentioned as a possible
problem and even deleted most of the messages to leave an inbox of
only 25 messages in case it was a size issue, but no joy.

I figure it is probably something really trivial and I am going to
look stupid - but I'll live with that to get my email!

Any and all help gratefully received

I would suspect a message blocking your other messages. 800 messages in
your Inbox is very likely to cause problems. The Inbox is special. It
gets synchronized more often than other folders.

Use another computer or Outlook Web Access (OWA) to create mail folders
and move as many messages as possible to these folders. Do *not* create
sub-folders within your Inbox.

Have a look at my blog post for best practices when using Entourage with
Exchange:

Hope this helps!
