No way to IMPORT MAIL's mailboxes to Entourage...

F

FW

I'm steaming angry right now -- as I was told that Entourage for MAC OSX
shipped with an Apple Script that would export over all of my Mail app
mailboxes into Entourage. I ran the script today, after installing
Entourage, and only about three quarters of my mailboxes were imported.

Thinking there might be an error in the script, I dumped all of those
imported mailboxes and ran the script again...same thing...only a portion of
my mail was brought over into Entourage.

This is useless to me. Are there any other options. I've lost hours of time
today trying to figure this out, my next step is to secure a refund for the
product.

I don't remember this coming up before so I suspect it might be something
specific in your setup. More details might give us some clues to help you.

I don't know what more I could detail? What specifically would you like me
to make reference to?

I'm running the latest version of OSX's Mail app. And I purchased the latest
version of Entourage for OSX, two days ago. I have many mailboxes, all of
them critical to the work I do. Not being happy with Mail's sluggish
performance and other problems I researched info about Entourage and decided
to purchase it -- given that all of my mailboxes and folders containing
mailboxes from the Mail app would import over without any problem, with the
script that was included on the install disc.

I followed instructions as per the script's "read me" file and waited while
the importing happened. But then, when I checked through all of the imported
mailboxes many were simply not there, they never imported. Say a folder had
20 mailboxes in it, maybe only 5 of those mailboxes would import over and be
contained, as they should be, within that folder -- but 15 of the mailboxes
in the folder didn't import over. They were no where to be found.

I then went the extreme route of pulling three forths of the original
folders out of Mail's library MAILBOX folder, thinking there were too many
folders to import at one time -- but even then, when I ran the script, the
very same mailboxes that wouldn't import over the first time STILL did not
import over.

In an even MORE maniacal frenzy I PULLED OUT individual .mbox files from
their original folders and tried to import THOSE over, individually, and
they STILL would not import. At that point I started screaming.

It's critical that I have access to all of my email correspondence, due to
the the kind of work I do online. I don't want to be toggling between apps
because of a simple error like this.

Does this give enough info? What would be "off" in my setup?

Did you update Entourage?

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

Install the following updaters in this order:

* Office 10.1.2 This is a combined updater that includes SR-1 and 10.1.1

* Office 10.1.4 Exchange Update. The components of the 10.1.3 update are
included in the 10.1.4 update.

* Office 10.1.5 Update.

How to check for correct version installed:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/version.html#Anchor-Currentversion>

Run Repair Permissions after updating.

I have many mailboxes, all of them critical to the work I do.

What is the size of your mail database?

OK, I did all the updates and rebuilt permissions. And: same problem. Faulty
import from Mail. This just blows majorily.

Why would updating Entourage effect the way the Apple Script for importing
from Mail operates...I don't understand.

Updating will also update the script that won't work in Jaguar.

* Install "Import from Mail" script from the Value pack

* Now update.
What will the updaters do?

Updaters offer improvements and bug fixes not only for Entourage but for
using with the OS. In this case the original script was released prior to
Jaguar and had to be updated.

I'm TOTALLY confused now.

Here's the order of events that I followed:

Installed the IMPORT FROM MAIL script off of the CD that installed the
version of Entourage that I'd purchased. So that's sitting on my harddrive
in the Office folder.

Then I tried running that script and getting all the partial imports and
probs.

Then I wrote to the newsgroup.

Then you intervened and told me to do the updates, and their order, which I
followed to the T.

Did all the updates.

THEN I went back to the IMPORT FROM MAIL script in my apps folder in the
Office folder and ran that again, and there were still only partial
mailboxes being imported.

Did I do something wrong in this order?

Thank you.

I'm not sure what happened after you used the old script. Since you are
really frustrated, try creating a new user and import, but is that doesn't
work then....

Use Remove office then install and update
Now open Entourage to a new user and try the import

This way everything is clean to start.

Hope this helps.
