No write access to application folder?

Today, Entourage crashed with an odd error that I don't now remember.
It would not restart so I unchecked the "restart" button in the error
window. I moved my Entourage Preferences from its location and now
restarting it gives the error

You do not have write access to the Entourage application folder.
To run Entourage you must have the administrative user remove the
Identities folder from the application folder. For more
information, see the Entourage Read Me file.

I've looked at the read me file but still don't have a clue what's
wrong or how to fix it. I've moved the Entourage Preferences file back
to a few places where I thought it should be. I ran Disk Utility and
repaired permissions. I ran DiskWarrior and rebuilt the disk's
directory structure. I moved the entire Microsoft User Data folder out
of my Documents folder. I reinstalled the 11.1.0 update. Still no
joy.

The Database Utility cannot be run--it just starts and quits
immediately. I also get "error starting Framework library" when I run
Excel and Powerpoint. Is this a related problem?

I have solved the problem where Entourage 2004 11.1 would return this
error:
You do not have write access to the Entourage application folder. To
run Entourage you must have the administrative user remove the
Identities folder from the application folder. For more information,
see the Entourage Read Me file.

Because the Remove Office program told me I couldn't remove Office as I
wasn't the one who installed it (not true), I manually deleted all
Office files. I then reinstalled from the Office 2004 CD and performed
the recent updates.

So something must have gotten snarfed with the ownership of files. All
is well now.
