Nonrepeating Reminders Don't Show up on Due Date

P

Peter Yarensky

I've been having a problem with reminders with Entourage 2004, possibly
only since installing the latest update. It seems only to occur with
single reminders for all-day events that aren't part of a series. They
work fine until the day they're due, and then they don't show up on that
day or on subsequent days. Needless to say this makes Entourage pretty
useless as a reminder program!

Has anyone else had similar problems, and does anyone know how to deal
with this problem?

Are you referring to Calendar Events or Tasks? You seem to mean Calendar
Events. The Reminder for a calendar event shows up at the time you set for
the reminder - not the time of the event. Reminders can only be set for
before the start time of the event, not after. When a reminder appears, it
will stay up until you snooze it or dismiss it. If you dismiss it, it won't
come back - not at the event time, not afterwards, not ever. If you snooze
it, it will come back at the time you set in the snooze dropdown (which
doesn't give all that many options).

Are you saying that a reminder doesn't reappear at the new snoozed time? Or
what? It's a little hard to make out what you set and why you're expecting
it to reappear. You're sure you haven't dismissed the reminder?

Reminders are run by Office Notifications app. not Entourage (unlike in
v2001 in Classic). Entourage does not have to be open for reminders to
appear, and they won't reappear when you launch Entourage if you've
previously dismissed them. They also won't go away when you quit Entourage,
though.

So how exactly are they going away? Or when have you set them to appear?

I'm referring to Calendar Events. Let me illustrate as follows. If I set
up a calendar event, say for Sat. 4/16, with a default reminder to occur
one day in advance, here's what will happen. On Friday 4/15 when my
computer starts up a reminder will appear for that event as it's
supposed to. Now, suppose I ignore the reminder and let it stay on my
screen, or click on its close box _without_ dismissing it, and then shut
down my computer until the next day.

In Entourage X that would have resulted in the reminder appearing again
on Sat. 4/16, the day the reminder is due. Furthermore, in Entourage X,
not only would the reminder have shown up that day, but it would have
continued to show up on all subsequent days _until_ it was dismissed.
However, with Entourage 2004 if I start the computer on 4/16, no
reminder appears, and it never appears again after that.

So, as I said in the original post, reminders simply don't appear on
their due date or on subsequent days. They haven't been snoozed or
dismissed; they just go away. Repeating reminders don't seem to have
this problem.

Once again, if anyone know if this is a problem that can be fixed in any
fashion I'd love to know, because if reminders don't show up on their
due date and they don't carry forward, I need to find a new calendar
program.

Peter,

I had the same problem too. Very frustrating if you are used to Offic
v.X. Here is a fix, but it had a trade off. In order to have th
(overdue) notice, you have to use the TASKS and set up the reoccurin
event. The trade off is that you can't see it on the actual calendar
but it does react the same in the Office Notifications pop-up window a
the old Office v.X did for calendar events. They won't go away until yo
dismiss or click on the checkbox "Complete"

So far it works for me (I use them for reoccuring bills) still runnin
some tests to get them back on the calendar view.

Hope this helps.

Jay,

Thanks for the idea - I didn't even think about tasks. And just by
coincidence I happened to check back here for the first time in a couple
months on the day you put in your reply - very handy! These days I find
myself relying on reminders more than the calendar, so this should work just
fine.
