Normal.dot instability

running office 2000 - for a very long time i added
autotext and changed the default font in normal.dot
template. about 6 mos. i started having a problem with
changes made in the template would not stay in place.
Whenever i would close Word i would get a message about
changes in normal.dot and wanting to save them. this is
extremely irritating. i have uninstalled office and
reinstalled. this helped for a couple of days, but i am
noe w back at the mercy of this inconsistent behavior.
