Normal.dot problems

K

Kelly O.

I have installed Office 2000 Pro on my machine a couple of times (SP3). Each
time I go into the Normal.dot template within Word and modify (add tabs or
add anything to the standard toolbar) and try to save, when I go back into
Word 2000, not all of my changes take effect. The biggest problems are the
"Header and Footer" icon won't stay on the Standard Toolbar and if I try to
go into the Header and Footer beyond that point, I lose everything below
"Insert AutoText."

I have saved the new Normal.dot with an alternate name, deleted the original
..dot, and then renamed the new file to Normal.dot but nothing works.

Thks, Kelly

Try building / copying your customizations in a separate global template.
See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations
including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros,
etc.

For tab settings, etc. Build some custom styles in a document template and
use that template to create new documents. For more on the different kinds
of templates, tabs on the file new dialog, and locations of templates
folders see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.
