Normal.dot

We have a modified normal.dot in our network (Win 2000, Word 2000).
The problem is that when I want to make a change in the normal.dot
I can only do this when nobody is working in Word - and that makes it
very difficult. It can even be that somebody forgets to logg off from
Word. People are working on very different times of the day so this is a big disadvantage when I want to administrate the normal.dot.
Is there a solution to this problem?

Your users should not be using a centralized Normal.dot. Normal.dot should
be installed locally for each user, as it is the scratchpad for user
customizations. Use a global template in the workgroup folder to provide
toolbars, macros, AutoText, etc., and specific document templates to provide
layouts and styles.
