Not showing that i have new mail

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Email Client: imap

I'm using Entourage and i have the address book set up with categories (friends, work, familiy...) and each category has a separate folder in which mail is automatically redirected.

What bothers me is that usually the folder that contains unread mail would show as bold and have a number of unread emails in brackets. After i set up this categories, that doesn't happen anymore, unless i go manually into the folder. If i do that, the new emails appear but only after like 7 seconds.

This is very disturbing because it is not clear at first glance if i have received new mail or not, so i have to check manually each folder all the time.

This is happening for my gmail account.

Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks

Is Entourage moving your mail or do you have rules on the Gmail server
doing this? If the Gmail server is moving your messages then Entourage
doesn't know what has been moved.

Go to Tools menu --> Accounts and double-click your Gmail account to
edit it. Under the Options tab, make sure you have

Live Sync: enabled
Only connect to Inbox: disabled
Check for unread messages in subscribed folders: enabled

Thank you. I have rules set up in Entourage, not on Gmail server. I did what you told me in the Tools menu. Live sync was not enabled before but the problem is still there.

Any other ideas.
