Notes do not display on hover in Indicator column

Hi,
When I try to view notes by hovering over the icon in the indicator column,
I either get nothing to display, or one line of an empty 'box'. However,
when I open the note in the task information there may be 10 or 15 lines of
text.
I am using Windows XP and Project Professional 2003 (11.0.2003.08.16.15)

Any ideas about this odd behavior?
Thanks,
Laurie

Laurie,
If the Notes field is displayed as a column in a view, including the
indicator column, the Notes text will be truncated at the first line
feed. My guess is that if no text is appearing it is because when the
text was entered, a line feed was inserted before the main text. However
when viewing the Notes text in the Notes tab of the task information
window, all text including line feeds are shown.

Notes text displayed in a column will also be truncated at 256
characters although that may not be an issue in your case.

I suggest you either remove line feeds from the Notes text or always
view the Notes text via the task information window.

Hope this helps.

John,
Thanks! That explains all the blank notes that are in this project plan (I
didn't put it together but now need to work with it), but it doesn't help
with the fact that I still have some that just don't show at all.
Let me try to explain more clearly and see if it makes more sense: When I
put my cursor over the note icon in the indicator column, either about 1 line
of what looks like a text box will display, or less than one line - nothing
more than a distortion to the task name really, will occur. (I tried to post
a screen shot, but didn't see a way to do it.)
I have opened several of these notes, and tried to remove any hidden
characters that might be in them, but it doesn't seem to help. What is so
frustrating is that other people can view the notes via the 'hover' feature
on the same project plan. It makes it seem, obviously, that it is something
to do with my pc and it's configuration.
Does that ring any new bells?
Thanks again for your time and knowledge.

Laurie,
No bells ring but it does help to know that the problem only occurs on
your PC. Does this only occur with the one file or does it also occur
with a new file that you create? If it only occurs with the one file, it
could be file corruption although it is strange that you are the only
one with the problem. If it also occurs with a new file you create I
suspect there may be a problem with your installation of Project.

If it seems to be file related, go to the MVP website at:
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
and look at FAQ 43 - File Bloat? - Might be corruption

If the problem appears isolated to your PC first, make sure you have the
latest updates for whatever version of Project you are using. You can
find those at the Microsoft website at:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX010857951033.aspx
If you have the latest update, from Project try Help/Detect and Repair
and see if that helps. If not, you may need to consider re-installing
Project.

Hope this helps.
