All the text in my mailboxes is in old typewriter text. I have checked
the preferences, but that does not seem to help. Any ideas?
I'm not sure if you mean the text in the messages, or the text in the
message _lists_. In either case, go to Entourage/General Preferences/Fonts.
Change the Plain Text font from (probably) Courier or Monaco that you have
now, to something like Verdana, or anything you want. For most screen
resolutions, I'd recommend size 12 but you can change that to whatever you
want. This will change the font that you both read and write plain text.
You can also change the HTML font if you wish, but that will change only the
default font you start writing in HTML - you'll still read whatever the
sender used.
You can change the List font to change the font or size of the font used in
message (and other) lists, but Verdana - the default - is pretty good. I set
the size to 10.
[You can also chnage the look of smaller size fonts in System
Preferences/Appearance in the Dock. In Panther it's set low enough by
default to get all Entourage fonts smoothed. In Jaguar you might want to
lower the size number (although smoothing was less good in Jaguar, so some
people actrually raised the number).]
