Odd Menus when composing

M

Matthew Leingang

Hi,

I use Entourage 2004. Often times, a menu changes to something nonuseful.

* When composing a message, sometimes the "Message" menu becomes an
"Animation Speed" menu.

* When composing a message, sometimes the "Message" menu becomes a
"Cropping" menu.

I can't isolate the problem; it doesn't go away if I close the message and
try again, but sometimes it goes away if I quit and restart Entourage.
Hotkeys work as they are supposed to, so I can workaround, but obviously I'd
like this to not happen. I haven't found anyone else who had the same
problem. Any clues?

TIA,
Matt

Hello again,

I haven't heard any answer on this yet, so I thought I'd ask again.

If you don't want to scroll down to the OP, I'm using Entourage 2004.
Sometimes (not now, for instance) when composing a message, the "Message"
menu becomes an "Animation Speed" menu. The items on this menu are

Send Message Now (shortcut: command+return)
Send Message Later (shortcut: shift+command+return)
10 frames/second (greyed out)
6 frames/second ("")
4 frames/second (active)
2 frames/second (greyed out)
1 frames/second ("")
2 seconds/frame (active)

Also, sometimes when previewing messages, the "View" menu becomes a
"Cropping" Menu. Its items are:

Very Tightly
Tightly
Moderately Tightly
Moderately (greyed out)
Moderately Wide (checked!)
Wide ("")
Very Wide

To correct what I wrote earlier: hotkeys corresponding to overwritten menu
items don't work either. (e.g., command-E for attachments). I can usually
do what I want by picking from the menus on top of the application window,
although not all menu items are available here.

I can make the problem go away by quitting and restarting Entourage,
usually. But this is a little annoying.

Nobody I work with who uses Entourage has this behavior. Nor have I found
any mention of this online. I've tried reinstalling Office, but it doesn't
go away.

Thanks in advance,
Matthew Leingang

I would suspect that some other program is interfering with your menus.
Are you using any haxies? m.

Matt,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not aware of having installed any haxies, and
scanning my System Profiler, I don't see any Application or Extensions that
sounds like it would interfere.

Is there a way to monitor outside applications touching Microsoft menus?

Okay, sorry about that. But it still does not sound to me like an Office
problem, because I don't know of anything within Office that would use
menus that look like that. Of course I could be wrong. m.
