OE 6.0 CAN'T SEND MESSAGES - PLEASE HELP!

I'm using Outlook Express 6.0.
When I try to send any messages (new or replying,
with or without attachments) I get this error message:
An unknown error has occured. Protocol SMTP

Any idea how I can correct this problem?
