Office 10 Folder keeps coming back

S

Shawn P

We have a growing problem with Office 2003 installs. A little background
first...we work in a very large enterprise environment. We were provided, by
our headquarters, a copy of Office 2003, with transforms, to use from a
network share to perform clean installs. These are fresh installs versus
upgrades. The computers we are loading this on are WinXP SP 1.

Here is the problem...after the install is complete (along with all of the
other applicable software) the Office 10 folder comes back. We cannot have
this folder in the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared becuase of
"security reasons."

Does anyone know why this folder keeps coming back and how to stop it from
reinstalling? If any other info is required, please let me know! TIA!

Hi Shawn,

As the MST and software were provided from
your home Office you may want to present the
issue to them.

<drive:>\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office11
folder is normal for Office 2003.

If you have ny 2002 series apps (check in Add/Remove Programs
in the Windows control panel) that were included
with the install or previously installed
then you may also have an \Office10
folder. You may also have a 3rd party product
or an add-in that expects to use or creates that
folder.

Bob,
You were right on the money...I overlooked the obvious thread...in this
case it was AutoCAD 2004. As soon as that program loads it creates the
offending folder. Now I have to figure out how to have our security folks
loosen their grip or a means of repressing that folder creation! Thanks!
