Is it possible to upgrade office 97 to office 2000 while
using windows 98? I have tried this on numerous occasions
but always the installation hangs about a quarter of the
way through

Yes it is possible, it should as a standard check for the existing of
previous version and uninstall them before Office 2000 is installed. Sounds
like you have some
additional problems, anymore infomation you can provide might help.

I am having the same problem. I am running Windows ME.
Previously(earlier today) I was running Office 2000. I
installed Office as Office 97 Professional and then used
the upgrade disk for Office 2000 almost 2 years ago and
Word & Excel have worked great for those 2 years. Access
has never worked, so I uninstalled Office 97 and 2000. I
then reinstalled Office 97 and the Office 97 service pack
and tested the programs. All of the Office programs were
working correctly.

I then put the Office 2000 upgrade disk in and after going
through the validation process, etc. it started loading
Office 2000 and then about a quarter through the
installation process the machine locks up. Now when I try
and open an Office program, the program begins to open as
the 2000 version and then closes saying the program needs
to be installed and to run setup.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Blaine
