Office 2001 Type 2 error on load

Hi there:

each time I try loading Entourage, Word, Powerpoint, or Excel I get a Type 2
error, crashing the program. Sometimes Entourage will boot up, but give me a
Type 3 error as soon as I begin to receive email.

Outlook loads up, but crashes as soon as I try to check my email.

So far, I've tried deleting my Internet Preferences, Microsoft Preferences,
and moving my identity to a new folder, all to no avail. Loading Entourage
off the CD didn't work either.

Any ideas?

Dear Beth:

I love you, you're a lifesaver! Your lengthy reply was much appreciated.

Here's what I did so far:
1. Installed the Office 2001 Service Release 1
2. Rebuilt the desktop

Bingo, working again. FYI, I have 256MB of ram and am running OS 9.1.
