Office 2003 No PhotoED - Is there a replacement ?

Greetings,

I uninstalled office 2002 and installed Office 2003 and discovered that 1)
there appears to be no toolbar (which I can live with) and there is no Photo
Editor. I copied PhotoED from my other computer to the new computer with
Office 2003. I can view images, but I can't make the file type association
with PhotoED. Error message says that "PhotoED is not installed and
therefore cannot be used to associate Image file types".

Does Office 2003 have a replacement for PhotoED, or is there a new component
that I need to purchase from Microsoft? Or, is there a workaround - a way to
make PhotoED installed on this new computer (without having to install Office
2002)?

Yes and no. Office 2003 includes MS Office Picture Manager (look under Start,
All Programs, Microsoft Office, MS Office Tools), which does some things
PhotoEdit doesn't and doesn't do some things PhotoEdit did.

Depending on what you need PhotoEd for, PM might do the job as well. If not,
perhaps an imaging app like the free IrfanView ( http://www.irfanview.com )
would be a good replacement for PhotoEd.

Thanks. Mainly, I like to be able to associate a file type with the
application. With PhotoED I was able to select multiple pics and open them
in one shot, and do some small editing - mostly lightening (or darkening)
pics. I have LviewPro, but that only opens one pic at a time. I will try
IrfanView, but does that open multiple pics like PhotoED?

No, but it does a great job of batch processing files.
Start it up, press B (for batch) and then have a look at the advanced options
screen. You can turn it loose on a whole directory full of files and go out for
coffee.
