Office 2003 Student Edition installation suspended

Tim Farrar

Hello,

I am concerned that my incomplete installation of MS Office 2003 will
cause problems, either now or when I eventually try to update/upgrade
it.

1. I started setup of MS Office 2003 Student and Teachers Edition.

2. Install got to new window and showed empty progress bar. TaskMgr
showed no apparent activity for the setup program, though TaskMgr
showed 5 instances of MSIEXEC.EXE. After over an hour wait, I
cancelled setup. I noticed that the Office 2003 icons appeared in the
Programs menu. Note: I had disabled Norton Anti-virus auto-protect
before starting installation.

3. I was able to start Office 2003 apps, though Outlook raised error
#1605 ("this action is only valid for products that are installed")
when I started it the first time; after first time, error #1605 did
not appear again.

4. I tried to re-install Office 2003 to get it to finish, but it says
that a previous installation is suspended. I also tried to uninstall
Office 2003, but it will not allow it for same reason.

I went ahead and activated the program with Microsoft.

Computer: Pentium 4 (2.8GHz), Win2kPro OS, NTFS drives C: (OS), D:
(Apps & Data). Office 2003 is installed on D:

Will appreciate any help offered.

Tim
